Climbing in Peru Tours and Expeditiions
The dry season, roughly April to September is the best time for any high-altitude climbing in Peru. Huaraz is without a doubt the center of all activity for any of these sports not just in Peru, but in all ofthe Americas. Cuzco and Arequipa also have a similar infrastructure that involves equipment rentals, guides, storage, group tours, and acclimitzations, rescue operations, etc. All equipment can be rented in any of these places but, if you are going on a very serious ascent, you probably should bring your own equipment for extra safety. Basic yet challenging climbs are found in places such as El Misti (Arequipa) and Pisco (Huaraz), while the likes of Alpamayo andHuascarán are for the experienced only.
The Cordillera Blanca is aclimbers’ paradise, with 33 peaks over 19,700 ft (6,000 m). The views afforded by these ascents, over an expanse of pristine snow, are staggering. Most climbers base themselves in Huaraz. We can help you plan a trip to the mountains, provide experienced guides, and rent out equipment. However, it is advisable to bring your own gear for the longer expeditions. Huaraz is also a good place for acclimatization hikes, ranging from four days to a week, before any serious climb.
