FISHING IN PERU
Most local fishermen use nets for fishing. In the jungle they may use spears. Fishing with a pole is not popular so you should bring your own if you intend to fish. Each of the three regions offers opportunities for the sport. In the Highlands, you can check out mountain streams and rivers in places such as Urubamba, Huancayo, Huaraz, and a number of other places. Trout is the big catch here. On the coast there are a number of places. In Lima you can head to either of the points of the bay, in Callao or Chorrillos where you will see the most activity. The best fishing is in the warm waters of the north however. Ernest Hemingway once hung out here, fishing off of Cabo Blanco. The area boasts the country's best sport fishing with blackmarlin, tuna, and a number of other high profile fish. In the jungle, fishing for piranha is common on many jungle excursions. For more extreme fishing and specific tours you should contact any of the tour operators or lodges and they will most likely be your best source of information.

Sport Fishing
Most fishing villages have boats for rent, or locals who are happy to ferry visitors around for a mall price. Secluded beaches dot the coast but be warned the water is cold and lifeguards rare. On remote or isolated beaches, campers should always camp in groups.
