Tour Highlights

 

DAY: ACTIVITY:

1 Private pick-up at the Lima Airport. Transfer to hotel in Lima for a nice meal & a good night's sleep.

 

2 Private transfer in the morning to the bus station. Take a comfortable first class ride to Huaraz (approximately 8 hour journey). Move into your hotel and relax... the adventure is all around you!

 

3 Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, answer questions, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city (acclimatize!). Spend the night in your Huaraz hotel.

 

4 Day hike to the turquoise waters of Laguna Churup (4500 meters). Approximately 6 hours round trip. Return to Huaraz.

 

5 Ice climbing at a nearby glacier to test out your equipment & review some basic climbing techniques and glacier travel skills.

 

6 Pack your bags! Drive up to the small mountain village of Pashpa where the trail to the Ishinca basecamp begins. Load the donkeys and begin the 8 mile hike to the top of the Ishinca Valley where we will make our base camp at around 4100 m.

 

7 Ishinca Summit Day! Your first alpine start - 2:00am waking and leaving by 3:00am. You'll pick your way through the delicate Andean tundra and gain the glacier around sunrise. Once on the glacier, wind your way through some impressive crevasses and up to the high saddle, then follow a final ridge to the very top. Estimated summit time is 1:00pm and return to Base Camp by 6:00 p.m.

 

8 Rest day. (Rock climbing, rappelling options, day hike, or skills option)

 

9 Taking your essentials, you'll leave for the high glacier camp of your final mountain, Tocllaraju. It usually takes 6 hours to reach the camp at 5000 meters. Enjoy an unforgettable dinner while mesmerized by Tocllaraju’s impressive west face. Get to sleep early for the next day's climb.

 

10 An early start today... wake at 12:00 midnight and after a light breakfast, depart for the summit by around 2:00am. You'll work your way across the saddle and begin the classic ascent up Toclla's north ridge. Things get steeper as you climb, with two sections of 60-80 degree snow and/or ice. Return to high camp typically around 2:00pm and after a rest and some warm food, continue back down to base camp for dinner and sleep.

 

11 Sleep in at last and wake to a delicious breakfast before packing up camp and loading the donkeys for the return to Huaraz. Once there, you'll check into your hotel for a nice shower and some rest. Enjoy a good dinner in town and start to get psyched for the final objective - Huascaran!

 

12 Rest day in Huaraz. Options to go biking, rock climbing, or just hang out and check your email!

 

13 Leave for the town of Musho around 10am after picking up fresh supplies. Load the donkeys and hike to the base camp of Huascaran.

 

14 Ascend on to Camp One, located on the glacier. (5100 meters)

 

15 Continue up to Camp Two, in the col between Huascaran Norte and Sur. (6000 meters)

 

16 SUMMIT DAY! Again you'll start early, leaving camp around 2:00am for the summit ascent, arriving back at camp around 2:00pm. After a break and some warm food, you'll continue the descent to Camp One.

 

17 Weather day, additional summit opportunity, or rest day.

 

18 Continue to descend to the trail head and return to Huaraz. Once there, you'll check into your hotel for quite possibly the best shower of your life. Dinner that night is a celebration banquet, a traditional Pachamanca, held in an even more traditional Peruvian hut.

 

19 Last minute shopping for family and friends before departing for Lima at 10:00am, arriving at the airport or your hotel by 7:00pm.
