PERU RESTAURANTS

Desayuno (breakfast), almuerzo (lunch), and cena (dinner) are the three meals in the Peruvian day. Breakfast is generally light in Peru. It consists of something simple such as bread or a pastry. Most restaurants do not open until 8 am, although hotel restaurants open earlier. Lunch is the big meal of the day and is taken around mid-day. The idea of having a larger lunch dates to Incan times, because they believed the altitude slowed digestion, so the most filling meal should not be eaten before sleeping. Many restaurants have menus, or a multi-course meal, for a set price. If you would like to read amenu ask for la carta; otherwise they will think you arerdering the special. The special is often the best value and will include an appetizer,main dish, and dessert. After about 3 pm, most restaurants shut down until dinner time. Dinner is late, usually no earlier than 9 pm and is very light, consisting of something small such as a sandwich. In isolated towns, most restaurants close by 9 pm.

☼ CHIICLAYO RESTAURANTS

The City of Friendship is how Chiclayo Peru wishes to define itself. Not a bad moniker to have if you wish to attract curious visitors to your neck of the woods. Chiclayo is Peru’s fourth largest city, and as such, can be quite busy. While there are some nice attractions to be found around town, most people who engage in Chiclayo travel come to visit the historic ruins at the nearby towns of Sipan and Tucume.

Located at the southeastern end of the country, Puno boasts a most envious feature. It rests at over 12,000 feet on the shores of the amazingly beautiful Lake Titicaca, which is not only the highest navigable lake in the world, but also the largest in all of South America.

 

☼ TRUJILLO

If you are having trouble trying to figure out when to go to Peru, you will be happy to hear that at least one Peruvian city features agreeable weather year round. Known as the City of Eternal Spring, Trujillo Peru is the country’s third largest city, and it is located in the northwest part of the country, just about 350 miles north of Lima.
